SHOULD I BE A SINGER?
Many people ask me this question. One thing I have learned over the years is that being a singer is not just about the voice. Even if you are incredibly gifted and prepared to do lots of hard work, there are no guarantees! It takes time to train the voice, so do not judge yourself until you have trained up. Lastly, there is only one good reason to be singing as far as I am concerned and that is because you LOVE it. Go for it. Follow your dreams but remember, there are no guarantees.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO LEARN TO SING?
Everyone's body is different. Every single person is an individual and as singing is learning to play the instrument of our body, it differs. The general plan is to work the five exercises over five weeks and then work a song or two so that you learn the 'battle plan' on how to approach any song you are going to sing.
DO YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO PLAY AN INSTRUMENT TO LEARN TO SING?
Although the ability to play an instrument other than voice definitely helps voice work of any kind, it is not a prerequisite for learning to sing.
DO YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO READ MUSIC TO LEARN SINGING?
Although the ability to read music is an asset, especially for confidence and head space, it is not a necessary prerequisite for learning to sing.
THE SINGING LESSONS
The singing lessons are taken in person at my studio in Meadowbank, Sydney, Australia or online, anywhere in the world, via the internet using a webcam and a live chat program such as Yahoo, ICQ or MSN. Online lessons must be purchased in advance from the Online Shop. I am very flexible with lesson times, so it is just a matter of working out a mutually convenient time for the singing lessons to take place. I also teach Piano, Guitar, Songwriting and offer mentoring services to budding careers. You pay for my time. Whatever I can help you with in that time, I will.
COST OF LESSONS
Each individual lesson held either at my studio in Meadowbank, Sydney, Australia or online costs AUD $40.00 per half hour lesson or AUD $70.00 per hour lesson. All Gift Certificates for more than one lesson include a lovely discount.
THE BOOK
Work at your own pace and become your own teacher with my book Singing For Everyone and the accompanying mp3 files. Giving great value for money, it covers many topics and will most probably change your life. You will become a singer as you work through each exercise, gaining strength, dexterity and confidence as you progress. You will need to practice each day, but a few minutes a day works wonders. You can purchase your copy from the Online Shop, the download version costs AUD $100 and the hardcopy version costs AUD $150.
HOW MANY SINGING LESSONS?
Just one singing lesson gift certificate, just one singing lesson, might be all it takes to ignite the inner flame of passion that makes learning to sing so wonderful. The plan is always to work through the five singing exercises to train the voice which generally are one exercise per week, so five lessons. However, training the voice is only one aspect and has really very little to do with the performance aspect of singing, so three singing lessons to work a song is also ideal. One singing lesson just to rehearse is a great idea. A last singing lesson is great to refresh and fine tune. After completing ten singing lessons and doing the practice work set in between lessons and the singer should be ready to live their dream and sing to the world.
